Only Rain Down the Storm Drain Library Program

WI Stormwater Week (Sept. 21-29, 2024) is a great time to teach kids about water, where water pollution comes from and drains to, and most importantly, ways to protect our local water resources. We’ve put together a sample library program with a menu of different activities to choose from to get your communities excited about stormwater and taking actions to keep your local waters clean. Help celebrate WI Stormwater Week by leading a library program in your community and help “Keep Only Rain Down the Storm Drain”.

Target Age: 6-10 years old

Objectives:

  • Describe what stormwater runoff is.

  • Determine where runoff in their community goes.

  • Understand pollution sources affecting runoff.

  • Describe actions people can take to reduce runoff and keep runoff clean.

Which of the three main WI watersheds are you located in? Lake Michigan, Lake Superior or the Mississippi River. Did you know that stormwater runoff that washes off land within these watersheds eventually makes its way to these waters? Request a free Lake Michigan, Lake Superior or Mississippi River poster to use during your library program(images below).
