Join us in celebrating Stormwater Week by planting a downspout garden! Downspout gardens help roof water soak into the ground, similar to rain gardens, but without the depression. Even a small (5'x5') garden can have a huge impact! These small gardens are located near the discharge of a downspout, have compost added to the soil, and are planted with native plants or grasses. Do your part to curb runoff and order a downspout garden plant kit! 32-plant kits are $30. This sale is only open to Madison Area Municipal Stormwater Partnership (MAMSWaP) community residents. Orders accepted Aug. 7th-11th or while supplies last. Pick Up Sept. 13th and 14th.

The City of Superior Environmental Services Division (ESD) is hosting the Barker’s Island Green Infrastructure Walking Tour for community leaders. The City of Superior was awarded a National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) grant. The main objective of the NFWF project was to install green infrastructure elements by decreasing impervious surfaces and increasing vegetation. Green infrastructure projects involve stormwater best management practices (BMPs), like rain gardens and green roofs, designed to control flooding, reduce erosion, and improve water quality. The tour will begin with Mayor Paine welcoming the attendees and then the group will visit five (5) project sites. At each stopping point, folks involved in project design, installation, and maintenance will discuss the function of green infrastructure and stormwater infiltration strategies in a high-traffic, multi-use waterfront space. Additionally, speakers will share information on project funding, design concepts, and the positive outcomes for the public and natural systems.

    Barker's Island
